Why Help?

Why not help? After all where you are today in a small measure is due to the education you received at Wesley College. Wesley’s hour of need is now and not later in order to sustain her standards. Wesley is a non-fee levying school which means it cannot determine the fees it charges its students. Therefore it relies on the funds received from students when they first join the school and from generous donations received to supplement the government funding and very modest fees paid by the students to run the school. Invariably it means that at any given time the school is not in a position with significant financial reserves that could be spent to improve the standards and meet the needs of the school.

Over a period of time the significant costs related to infrastructure repairs and maintenance has left the school in the difficult position of performing a juggling act with its finances. Everyone wishes for standards to improve but without funds to pay for the improvements, the harsh reality is that neglect and erosion of standards sets in. The cumulative effect over many years has seen Wesley lose its standing in terms of educational excellence when compared to the Cartman and Oorloff eras. Therefore it is important that a planned approach is taken to generate revenue for clearly identified needs of the school from external sources rather than relying too heavily on the current student population to generate the income.
